The success
of a company is known by what it gives back to the society. In 1945,
Late
Lala Shyam Lal Gupta established Shyam Lal Charitable Trust to
help the cause of education and medicine. In 1964, the trust set up
Shyam Lal College which was the first college to come up in
trans-Yamuna area for formal education to cater to the educational needs of
the student community. |

Late Dr.
Zakir Hussain, the then Vice President of the India and Chancellor of
Delhi University, laid the foundation stone of what would become one of the
finest institutes of learning in the country. In September 1969, evening
classes were started at the college. At present, the college is has over
3000 students on its rolls. This year the college also received an award
from Delhi University for providing the best facilities for computer science
education for the undergraduate stream. |

The trustees have identified the
challenges of higher education and believe that many changes are required to
bring relevance and focus meeting the needs of today and future. |

The group is identifying new
areas of reforms, expansion and building effective partnerships as its
contribution to the institution. Mrs. Nirmala Gupta, Jt. Managing Director
of S. Chand has been appointed as Chairperson of the Governing Body of Shyam
Lal College, New Delhi. In addition, Dr. M. K. Razdan has joined the Shyam
Lal College (Morning ) in the capacity of Principal and Dr. G.P. Aggarwal
has been appointed as Principal (Evening). |
